Certainly this idea has been part of the American DNA for many years. The argument of “American Exceptionalism” is one of the hot topics being discussed during the current presidential debate. Some people say it is certainly true especially when examining the blessings of our resources and American progress in comparison to other nations. Others find it arrogant and point to the aspects of our history that do not present our country in a favorable “Shining Light on the Hill.”

William Doino Jr.’s “On The Square” article on the topic (found in “First Things”) offers a balanced view on the debate complete with an historical perspective (something I like to hear in discussions on issues such as this).
